Learning Foodie-ism at Macaroni Grill: Foodie Experience Pt. 1

Not so ironically, we began our foodie journey last Friday night at the local Macaroni Grill. The bread, though a little on the salty side, was excellent. The pepper-and-cheese guy perfectly peppered the olive oil. A good start.
While waiting for our orders to come in, we saw a waiter who precisely resembled Chad Michael Murray (Yes, THE Chad Michael Murray of Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff movie fame,) and learned that Macaroni Grill has awkwardly positioned child seats in the bathrooms to strap your children into while you pee. Yes, the sightline from your child lines up quite nicely with... you know. But they gotta learn anatomy sometime. But, never the less, our appetizers arrived: a mozzarella cheese slice crusted in breading called Mozarella Fritta that you can basically call a mozzarella stick. It even had the marinara (reminiscent of school lunches). But they were much better; they were superb, actually.
For our entrees, we got a simple pasta that we forget the name of. It was nicely cooked, covered in freshly shredded cheese, red pasta sauce and halved cherry tomatoes. Easily out-delicioused the other entrees: a roasted vegetable pizza, which was nice, but the combination of vegetables was odd.. we just didn’t enjoy eggplant and yellow bell peppers together. We ordered dessert on a whim: delicious lemon and rasberry sorbet and a slice of chocolate cake. The sorbet was the better of the two, and looked highly appetizing in a little martini glass.
Two things we learned by the end of the meal: our dreamy Chad Michael Murray waiter was actually a shy Mormon boy with few friends [we questioned our bubbly wairess] and Macaroni Grill must waste a lot of basil. Every solitary dish was garnished with several leaves, starting with the Mozarella Fritta and continuing on to finish with the sorbet. We don’t underestimate the power of basil; it’s delicious, but we don’t particularly want to chew it up with our chocolate cake. Cute, though.
