Friday Mixtape: April 16, 2010

Friday Mixtape! You're in for a real treat! Here we go!!! The first track is "Chrome Sitar" by Marc Bolan "and" T. Rex...?... isn't Marc Bolan like the main dude in T. Rex?? Why did he have to go all Nicole Scherzinger...or maybe I'm misunderstanding the situation...and yes, I know he's dead, I'm sorry, RIP...sorry for desecrating your name with a Pussycat Dolls comparison. Anyway, suchhhh a great song. We all know T. Rex is da shiz.

Ok, numba two is "Human Nature,"by Madonna is an old favorite I've been listening to for the past couple weeks. Love. One of my fave Madonna jams of all time.
"Gotta Get Mine," by MC Breed featuring 2Pac is the third track and also the third song that was a former flame that I just got reacquainted with this week. Really, really good song. Just very solid.

Track 4, here's a real fucking gem: "A Date with Jack," (with a really random interview at the end) by Castration Squad, of which our BFF Phranc was a member:

Track 5 is"It's Only Rock'n'Roll," covered by Tina Turner and Mick Jagger (Epic Collabroation! Only in leauge with those two with David Bowie -seperately- and Queen/Bowie)...Wait would it still be a cover...because it's originally by the Stones? ...Eh. We'll leave these things to the brain surgeons and rocket scientists.

Track 6: Pixies' "Dig for Fire". Yeah.

Shangri-Las' "Leader of the Pack". Ah, so good. I love dem '60s girl groups. I was reading this book on feminism and women's history, etc, and it had this whole huge section on female musicans and tons of praise for the Shangri-Las, especially ("They wore leather pants and sang about sneaking out and dating boys who rode motorcycles"), and other '60s female artists and it reminded me of my love for them.

Track 8: Lenny Kravitz: "It Ain't Over Till It's Over". If you're like me, you've heard this song a million times but it still warms your heart and you don't have the willpower to turn it off.

Track 9 is "When Worlds Collide," by Powerman 5000. I'm sorry. Truly sorry. I don't know why I did it (isn't one of the dudes like Rob Zombie's brother?).

And your fun final track is..."Celebrity Skin," by Hole! Yay. Epic Fun! I know most of the songs this week were ones that everyone already knows but meh. That's just how it turned out. Enjoy it.

Friday Mixtape: March 19, 2010

Ah! I'm obsessed with this week's playlist! It's really good! OK, so first, and i think probably most important (but I love all my songs equally...) is "All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You": I've given into the Heart spell. I tried to stay away, but pandora radio insisted that resistance is futile to Heart. Soo- ALL I WANT TO IS MAKE LOVE TO YOU! SAY YOU WILL! YOU WANT ME TOO! Ahhh... Best. Song. Ever. Is you seen the video? It's so epic! I guess I didn't want to hear Heart because, I don't know, I thought they were like folk. But I like folk. So I don't know why I was so against it, and anyway, they turned out to be like stadium rock. EXCELLENT!

So, the Runaways is coming out...today? This weekend? Idk, soon. When/if I see it, I'll probably post something, see what I come up wit. I really want to see it! At first I was like, "eh," but then i was like HELLZ YEAH! I think K-Stew can actually rock it. Anyway, so Joan Jett (everyone's hero), was on my mind.

RocĂo will be happy about track 3, we enjoy rocking out to this song together.

Skip track 4, "Into the Fray" by Earth Crisis, if you don't like hardcore, or if you ain't the mood for it (it's ok, a lot of times im not either). But you might like it. It's catchy! Earth Crisis is the straight edge, pro-animal, pro-environment group that you love.

Track 5, "Take Me On" by Aha, because... I really don't know why. It's catchy?

Another guilty pleasure: "Electric Hellfire" by Black Label Society. Sorry.
Then I realized we needed more pop so track 8 is Jeannie Ortega's "Crowded". This was the first song I actually had on my iPod, when I first bought an older one off my friend, it was the free download of the week! Ahem...Score! I already knew that song and loved it! Plus, one of my friends was in a situation similar to Jeannie's, so I reffered her to Jeannie. I just love medicore (or just unsucessful?) female pop stars...don't get me started on Paula DeAnda!

Track 9...'Til Tuesday's "Voices Carry". Why? See track 5. Plus, go Amiee Mann!

I realized there was no hip hop so I was like, "I must fix this!". J.J. Fad (LOVE!) are like the opposite of Menajatwa they have really soft voices, it's weird, but they still sound really awesome.
Yeahhhhh...that's it.

Friday Mixtape time! Yay! You was excited- admit it! These songs were playing in my head all week! The first one, "Goodbye To You," by Patty Smyth (not to be confused with Patti Smith) is uber-addicting and was love-at-first-listen! You know I love PJ Harvey forever and "Kamikaze," seemed to be the song of the week. Then I was having a Run DMC flashback and remembered the cuteness of "Walk This Way," with Aerosmith (aw!). The song from Born in Flames was in my head...And "Shattered," is so catchy, so I listen to it all the time. And i enjoyed the Alice reference in the first verse of that song and "Under My Wheels," is always in my head- yesterday I completed an awesome drawing of Alice in that video and his sexy outfit that makes me really horny:

Alice is so beautiful....I love him. "Any Way You Want It," was by far the winner of song that was in my head the most this week....I was just sitting there, trying to concentrate-ANY WAY YOU WANT IT, THAT'S THE WAY YOU NEED IT- sorry. I know Raj will be mad at me for putting that on... Journey hater....oh well. Anyway- this is crazy- I was looking for this one Babes in Toyland song (Blue Belle), but then I saw the fucking weirdest shit ever- Babes in Toyland's cover of the Little Richard classic, "The Girl Can't Help It". WTF?? Whatever, I'm loving it. It's crazy phat! Finally, I'm addicted to "Are You Bad?" by Glitter Mini 9 (lolz.), and it actually makes sense because we three of Iconic Eggroll have a problem with people who are "goodies," and we were concerned that one of our potential romantic interests may be a goodie, so we were like "is he bahhh-ah-had?" (Not really.). So that's your fun last track. It should be therapeutic after hearing Babes in Toyland cover Little Richard. Happy Friday!

Songs Stuck in My Head This Week

STORY: "Shoplifting" was in my head all week, because
I had a The Slits relapse- you know the kind. "G-Shit"
because I love the Lady of Rage and she's always on
my mind. And "Feed My Frankenstein" because Alice
is my husband, so I'm always thinking about him....
it's love. Anyway, we were at a diner and we wanted
to play "Oops!...I Did It Again" because it had been
in all of our heads all week, but the jukebox was like
"*no*. Cher first." Even the laws of reality cannot hold
back Cher. So then our jukebox was blasting "Believe".
Really loudly. You don't stifle Cher.
